Role Purpose
The Calanais Visitor Centre is undergoing an ambitious
£10.1 million redevelopment and will reopen in early 2026 as a world-class,
5-star visitor attraction and a thriving community hub. This is a unique and
exciting opportunity for a creative and motivated Digital Engagement Officer to
play a key role in enhancing the Centre’s digital presence and community
engagement.
As a Digital Engagement Officer, you will be responsible
for developing and managing our social media platforms, digital communications,
and online engagement strategies. You will work closely with the Heritage
Manager to create and deliver a cohesive engagement plan that connects the
Centre with the local community and global audiences.

& Responsibilities
Digital Engagement and
Communication
- Develop
and implement a comprehensive social media strategy across multiple
platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok) to increase
audience engagement and visibility.
- Create
and manage high-quality, engaging content (including text, images, and
video) aligned with the Centre’s brand and values.
- Monitor
and respond to online interactions, developing a positive and engaging
online community.
- Design
and distribute regular e-bulletins and digital newsletters to keep
stakeholders and visitors informed.
Community and Stakeholder
Engagement
- Support
the Heritage Manager in the development and delivery of a community and
heritage engagement plan.
- Act
as the primary point of contact for digital communications with local and
national stakeholders.
- Promote
diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility through digital engagement,
ensuring all voices are heard and represented.
Project and Event Support
- Work
closely with the Heritage Manager to promote special events, exhibitions,
and community activities through digital channels.
- Ensure
that the Centre’s digital content is regularly updated and refreshed to
reflect current activities and events.
- Provide
regular reports on digital engagement performance to the Board,
identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.

Essential Skills and
Experience
- Experience
in managing social media platforms and digital communications for an
organisation or brand.
- Proven
ability to create engaging content across various platforms.
- Strong
communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage
diverse audiences.
- Excellent
organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple
priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience
working in a collaborative team environment.
- Proficiency
in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media
tools.
Desirable Skills and
Experience
- Degree-level
qualification in a relevant field (e.g., marketing, communications,
heritage, or archaeology) or equivalent experience.
- Experience
with content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Prezi).
- Experience
working within the heritage, tourism, or non-profit sectors.
- Gaelic
language skills are desirable, and a willingness to engage with the Gaelic
culture. Full support will be provided in developing these skills, from a
learners point of view.
